Protecting Your Boundaries So Your Business (and life!) Can Prosper

when to walk away

Perseverance. Tenacity. Stick with it –ness. All excellent traits, and especially prized among the entrepreneur set. There’s no space for ambitious entrepreneurs like us to pout, sulk or give up because ‘it’s hard’. But this isn’t the same as stubbornness. Or blind pursuit of an outcome. Can you tell the difference?

I, Devon Smiley, do solemnly swear that at no point during this video will I attempt to impersonate Kenny Rodgers.

Originally this edition of the Smiley Sessions was going to be specifically about knowing when to walk away from a negotiation. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that it’s a lesson that applies to a lot of our lives as entrepreneurs. It could be a negotiation that’s driving your profit down the drain, a client who is driving you up the wall, or a 9-5 that makes you feel empty at the end of the day. We have to learn to listen to the signals, set our boundaries on what we will and will not accept – and then walk away.

Your Smiley Sessions Challenge:

What part of your life is starting to feel like a really itchy sweater? Where’s your bottom line on what you’ll put up with? Draw your line and know when to stop accepting what just isn't working for you or your business.

Are you accepting this week's challenge?
