Negotiation Motivation, Volume 1 - The Essential Playlist
Truth time: I don’t wake up every single day with pep in my step and a fire in my heart when it comes to getting shit done in my business. Some days are more of a crawl to the coffee, then a bunch of procrastination.
And on those days, I need a swift kick in the butt to get back into business mode.
I’m betting that when it comes to negotiation, you feel the same way. You know you should. You know you could. You know that it’d probably get you some pretty great results. But. Ugh. Getting that motivation to make the Ask is tough.
When you’d rather tweak your blog graphics, or read just a few more articles in the name of research than jump into a negotiation, I want you to press play on the Negotiation Motivation Playlist below, and get ready for some serious Make The Ask Mojo.
Negotiation Motivation Volume 1
Deee-Lite – Groove is in the heart
Fact: You can’t get the mojo started without a boogie to this song. There must be a scientific study somewhere about what this beat does to our moods…how can you laze about after shimmying to this?!
The Smiths – Ask
“Shyness can stop you from doing all the things in life you’d like to.” ---> this! You want something? Work up that courage and go for it!
The Beastie Boys – So What’cha Want?
You can’t get what you want until…well...you know what you want. What’s your best-case outcome? What could you live with? Figure out what’s gonna make this client or project a win in your books, and then negotiate to achieve it.
Young MC – Bust A Move
Opportunities to negotiate pop up all the time, we just don’t always realize it. Relax your absolute focus and ease up on that tunnel vision to better spot the chances coming your way to make your business bigger and better. On the hunt for opportunities? Asking “Is there flexibility here?” is a great place to start.
Foreigner – Cold As Ice
Relationships are key to achieving your best business results…and no one wants to deal with a cold fish. Or an Ice Queen. Or a corporate robot. So warm up!
The Supremes – You Can’t Hurry Love
It takes the time it takes. Arbitrary deadlines, rushed concessions, half-assed document reviews. They gotta go. Spending en extra few weeks creating the best possible deal with a client, vendor or partner will be more than worth it. #EverlastingLove
Destiny’s Child – No, No, No
No. Learn how to say it, and learn how to hear it. When you say no, stand your ground, but be able to explain why. When you hear it, ask questions to uncover the other person’s why, and then respect that – while still striving for a solution.
The Rolling Stones – Satisfaction
With all due respect to Mick and the boys, satisfaction is absolutely possible. You’re not gonna get everything you want, but you can make almost any deal work for you if you’ve set the right priorities and found flexibility. Check out ‘How To Unlock Your Maximum Value’ for more.
Survivor – Eye of the Tiger
A Negotiation Motivation Playlist without this classic? Impossible. Set your sights on the prize, then work your buns off to achieve it, just like Rocky. Put in the time, hone your skills, and then fearlessly ask for what you want and need. Step into the ring, and embrace being an entrepreneurial champ.
